This Weekend
Pottery, books, and pizza. Oh my!
This weekend was nuts. I finished the first draft of my thesis intro. I wrote a five-page art history paper. I starred in a student film. I went to pottery class at one studio, then worked on my own stuff at another. I hosted a yard sale. I tried a new restaurant (meh) and ate pizza from an old fave. I licked Amy’s ice cream with my son and said goodbye to him until May. I washed and clipped the dog with my husband, a massive endeavor that takes hours on account of the fact that Reepeegee has insane Lhasa Apso hair and is mean as a rattlesnake when you groom him. I washed my other dog so he wouldn’t feel left out. I watched a couple of movies (including Shaun of the Dead for the 100th time) and TV shows (including The Righteous Gemstones). I drank a beer with my husband and his best friend and picked up a couch from another friend.
I cooked dumplings and breakfast sandwiches. I ate a rosemary bagel with jalapeno and onion cream cheese. I hunted for houses. (More on that later.) I designed a party invite. I took pictures, developed a roll of film, then tried not to cry when only one negative turned out. I washed and put away laundry and cleaned dishes and rooms. I read an adaption of Macbeth based around the Mexican cartel, then watched a recording of a performance of said play, read an essay on the play, and then wrote a short essay on what I saw and read. I talked to my best friend from elementary school on the phone who was having a bad day. I read a textbook chapter about Manet and Impressionism. Whew.
My husband has 16 days of work before he retires forever. I don’t have many more than that before I graduate. Big changes are afoot, and in the meantime, I am packing everything I can into these final days. I have to keep my head down and stay the course. This listing of shit I got done is not a humble brag. It might have been a note to self to dial it all back. What I did NOT do is quilt, jerk off my bother (if you know, you know), or waste time thinking about how it was all too much.
Was it too much?

Loving your writing voice, Burgin. Don't stop!
Goodness gracious, I don’t know how you are so productive in one weekend. Don’t forget to sleep.
